Harrogate RFC Under 11’s were one of four lucky teams to be invited to join a special coaching session in Oxford this week with the England men’s Six Nations rugby squad, Wednesday 26th February.
Edward Walker, of Meadowside Academy and Harrogate RFC player, spent three fantastic hours training together with 15 of the England squad including Owen Farrell, George Ford, Ellis Genge and Sam Underhill (both pictured).
The day started with a 4.30am wake-up call before boarding a coach at 5.00am from Harrogate Rugby Club to head to Harwell RFC where the training session had been arranged. Once the team arrived they were amazed to find their changing room was right next door to the England squad. First there was a quick introduction to the England players at the club house before heading out onto the pitch for an intense training session.
Edward described training with his sporting heroes as ‘just amazing’ taking away incredible memories as well as a shirt signed by the England squad. Ed says “I learned how to improve my tackles and got loads of encouragement from the England coaches and player”.
England coaches described the Harrogate U11’s play style as energetic and dynamic. The training session wrapping up at 1.30, followed by lunch and the journey home for 15 inspired, excited and very tired boys.
